But now there is a new challenger and while Astro isn’t much of a character his games are becoming some of the best in Sony’s line-up. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – Just after the pinball area you will slide across some ice blocks. This puzzle piece is just after one of the ledges you drop down on the blocks. You can hold the touchpad button down to bring yourself to a stop on the ice. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – In this same pinball area, knock out the 6 bowling pin enemies around the center bumper to make this puzzle piece appear.

Puzzle Piece 1/4 – At the second checkpoint instead of going forward, go to the left and up to a platform where you can find a spot to blow into the mic. The microphone makes the wind more intense while the vibrations of the sand are felt as the controller feels like a sandstorm.

The game is a fantastic tech demo for the DualSense controller while also being an enjoyable platformer in its own right. Astro’s Playroom has been described as a love letter to PlayStation, as the game is full of references to past and present Sony franchises. As you’re exploring Playroom’s levels you’ll also stumble across Astro Bots wearing a blue cap and holding a camera. They’re mostly there for the fun of it all rather than to accumulate anything, but every single one of them made me smile, even the few that I had to take a moment to try and guess at. I won’t spoil any more here so as to not rob anyone of the joy of first discovering them.

For a free game that comes with the PlayStation 5, one largely designed just to showcase all the bells and whistles of Sony’s next-gen DualSense controller, Astro’s Playroom is surprisingly fun. It’s not just a great toybox to experience the DualSense’s haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, microphone, and more, it also delivers the best proof-of-concept pack-in I’ve played since Wii Sports. This is a truly joyous homage to PlayStation history, as well as an experimental platformer I can only hope to see turned into a larger experience during the PS5’s lifetime. As you get better at playing games, you’ll get better at being able to make things up as you go. Aside from being a technical showcase, Astro’s Playroom is also a game that was clearly made with a lot of care and passion. Each world is themed after a particular computer component, and one of the main goals is to collect secret items that are all pieces of classic PlayStation hardware. There’s even a trophy room where you can interact with them, using your little robot hands to turn on a gigantic PSP Go, or hop on the eject button of an original PlayStation to see the lid pop open. At its most basic, Astro’s Playroom is a fairly straightforward platforming game. You play as a cute little robot named Astro, exploring four different worlds set in a universe that appears to exist inside of a computer.

Puzzle Piece 3/4 – In the third hang glider section you will need to avoid a number of mines that appear in the air. Just before reaching the platform at the end, a puzzle piece will appear directly in the middle of the area that you need to grab before landing. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – When crossing the tightrope while being blown to the side, jump over to the platform with the flower.

Throw the cannister with the net inside at the blue aura when the lock-on symbol appears to reveal the Special Bot. Go under the bridge and immediately on your right pull the exposed cable cords to grab a throwable canister with a net inside. Punch the shell to reveal a steering wheel, then stand in front of it push the Options button to bring up the map. Go to the far right corner of the beach, next to the building, on the opposite side of where the Gran Turismo Astro Bot is. Proceed through the stage as normal until you reach the first dynamite enemy.…

So often that’s where magic in video games happens, and that’s most certainly the case here. On its own, this is a beautifully crafted, exquisitely paced and absolutely gorgeous 3D platformer. Combined with the hardware it’s bundled on, it’s something very special indeed – and one of the best launch titles I can remember in an age. A tech demo shouldn’t have this much of a following, but that’s the power of Team Asobi’s Astro’s Playroom. The Astro Bots made their debut with the PlayStation VR tech demo, The Playroom. They showcased the capabilities of the VR device and left an impression on the higher-ups at Sony.

Next to the PocketStation described above are two cylinders containing the sacred symbols in the form of clouds. You need to jump to the left to reach a room with another rotating platform. Puzzle Piece 4/4– While on the floating ice platforms, this puzzle piece is in the air while you are on the second one. Artifact 1/2 “PS Move Navigation Controller” – From the start of the area pull up the wires on the right to grab a throwable item, then throw it at the platform to drop it into the water. Jump across and pull the three small wires, followed by the revealed large middle wire to get this artifact. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – From the start of the area, go to the left and go through or around the igloo to find this puzzle piece. Artifact 1/2 “PS Move Sharpshooter”– After jumping up through the two slanted glass panels, jump to the left to an area with a wooden box with a diamond on it.

If you’re new to platformers, or video games in general, you may find yourself rushing in and dying quickly for seemingly no reason. If this happens a lot to you, try stepping back and observing the obstacles ahead. Study the movement of platforms, observe what enemies are up ahead, and plan your approach accordingly.

These portions are also pretty forgiving, with generous checkpoints and obstacles that provide just enough resistance to make you pause a moment, but not so much that you get stuck. Plus, it’s hard to get too mad with the game’s infectiously upbeat soundtrack going in the background. A number of special bots were added to Astro’s Playroom in the months leading up to the release of Astro Bot.

The game’s 16 levels feature nasty little bots to defeat, and little secrets and character cameos to find, such as the Buster Sword from Final Fantasy 7 or Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. Levels have Astro jumping on fluffy clouds in Memory Meadows, skating along the ice in Cooling Springs, or blowing up asteroids in a later level in SSD Speedway. Astro’s Playroom was a tech demo dedicated to the DualSense, PlayStation 5’s signature controller. The controller cames packed with a lot of new technology, making it incredibly unique.

Land on the next switch to the left to lower some more platforms above. Jump up the platforms to the top, but keep an eye out on the top-left to spot Puzzle Piece #2. Puzzle Piece 4/4 – When going down the section where you are blown by two clouds, make sure to stick to the right after the second cloud to get bounced to this puzzle piece. Artifact 1/2 “PlayStation Memory Card” – Just ahead there will be a split in the road with a path on the left with a danger sign.

In this fun platformer, explore 4 worlds based on the console’s components. Each area showcases innovative gameplay using the new features of the PS5 DualSense™ wireless controller. One way Astro Bot cleverly sows the seeds of these concepts – which do a remarkable job of consistently tricking my brain into buying into the different topography – is the lobby hallway ahead of each world. Before jumping into any of the locales (all of which are just a simple animation away, with no loading screens in between), the portal to each world features the type of terrain you’ll primarily encounter.

It’s good when you say other critically acclaimed games aren’t doing it well. That’s not to say all games aren’t doing this, as Returnal and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 used the controller capabilities to the max. Press the Options button on your controller whilst next to the blue steering wheel to bring up the Map Menu; you should hear the sound of an engine revving up. Jump up the steps and head right to get to the top of the structure and to a line of asteroids (which will be guarded by Spitters and other various enemies). Continue along g28 (a line of Coins will appear when you do this), and around the corner you’ll find a tiny astronaut toy.

From the beginning of the level, follow the wooden path forward through the grass and up to Checkpoint 2. Tug the cables to the left of it to reveal some steps up to the next area. Continue following the wooden path forward to the next wall, defeating three Knockers and a Spiky as you go. Both the roller ball and the ship suits were easily the best of the ones on offer. Considering both get more interesting levels after their introduction.

PaRappa in particular is famous for being the first rhythm game ever created. They’re cut-outs because all the characters were 2D in their games. After the melting snow platform section down the river, on the right side you can see two Bots by a door with a Bot further on in a lab coat. This refers to 1996’s Resident Evil on the PS1, developed by Capcom. The two characters are Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, while the lab coat Bot is series villain Albert Wesker. The door is a reference to show the game hid loading times, by showing a shot of a door opening to disguise the load between rooms.…

On the surface, it’s another thrilling superhero story packed full of surprises, cameos, and Easter eggs – but there are deeper meanings to be found here, too. There are also smaller stories at play, though, ones that may seem less important when compared to city-wide chaos, but feel like potential world-enders to those who inhabit it. Both Spider-Men tackle the most extreme examples of trying to manage a work/life balance you can imagine, exploring a range of personal issues including strained relationships and loss that plague us as humans, no matter how superpowered we may feel.

Its allowance for Steam Controllers and use of the Steamdeck Verification pleased long-time players. What’s more, each version of the title that hits PC is essentially the most complete iteration. That means that DLC, costumes and any glitch fixes are already built into the game. Although there’s some bug support needed post-launch, for the most part, Insomniac’s rollouts have been remarkably simple. In Miles Morales’ long list of suits, you’ll spot one eerily familiar one called Best There Is. The suit’s name is a reference to the popular Wolverine quote from the comics, “I’m the best there is at what I do, but what I do isn’t very nice”.

That being said, I can’t help but have hoped for a few more flashes of Gotham City to make their way into New York. Miles still gets his time in the spotlight, however, and has some fantastic moments towards the end of the main campaign, even if some of the more interesting explorations of his Puerto Rican/African American culture are reserved for side missions. Obviously, what you take away from the story and its diverse cast of characters will be unique to you.

Kraven The Hunter (second Fight)

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated action-adventure games, bringing the thrilling world of Spider-Man to life with stunning graphics and immersive gameplay. And sure, more of what came before does mean that Spider-Man 2 retreads less successful ground, like the first game’s buzz-killing science puzzles. However, the good far outweighs the bad, and a few new gameplay mechanics freshen up aspects of both traversal and combat. Altogether, it’s a great game and one well worth seeing all the way through from its bombastic beginning to its emotional end.

Reflecting on how these memories will soon be lost to him, it’s a stark reminder to Miles (and the player) that this world is populated by real people and their experiences, and that is worth fighting for. There’s also the prerequisite stealth options which — and this cannot be stressed enough — serve zero purpose for Spider-Man. As with most games, the choice to stick with stealth attacks will almost aways slow down the gameplay and result in most players triggering fisticuffs just to get back to the action. On the Eastern side of it is a (relatively) small building that’s on an angle compared to the buildings around it. Near where the train tracks stop (on the map screen, at least), look for a building under construction with a yellow crane over it. luck8 to the Eastern side of the building and get to the top of the yellow-netted scaffolding to find the Spider-Bot. This Spider-Bot, JJJ, can be found close to the Northern border of Greenwich. On the map screen, locate the building that looks like a chevron arrow pointing South-West (called Glam).

Another is Hydro Punch, which is almost certainly a reference to Hydro Man. Dazzler’s Stage is a small tent pitched up with a dancer, referencing Dazzler from the X-Men, and so on. Even more peculiar, if you head to the opposite side of the building, you’ll find a bookstore that you can actually enter via the open front door (an extreme rarity). Inside you’ll be able to see into the secret room through a bookshelf on the back wall – but also notice the metallic goat/ram skulls on the wall of the store and the abstract painting.
